The past is starting to emerge as one of our favorite options for the future. In confusing and turbulent times, it seems comforting to return to tradition. Shaken by the current wave of precariousness and the vertigo of change, some long for the security of the old days. These nostalgic voices today dream of the eternal return of ancient certainties, of a world where there were less chiaroscuro, less confusion, less ambiguity. In their eyes, traditional society offered a safe place in a stable order. Before the social uprisings, May ’68 and globalization – we are told – life was a less dangerous journey.
