Severe weather, orange and yellow weather warning today: risk areas

Weather conditions worsened today, Sunday 16 November. Worsening conditions, with widespread and locally intensive rainfall, occurred in northern regions and Tuscany.

“A wide area of ​​depression near the Atlantic is affecting central-western Europe with several disturbances moving eastward. One of them, in the next few hours, will affect our country, resulting in a worsening of weather conditions in the northern regions and Tuscany, with widespread and locally intensive rainfall,” said the civil protection agency which – based on available forecasts, in agreement with the regions involved – has issued a warning about severe weather conditions. The notice regulates aboutorange alert for storm risk in Liguria and for hydraulic and hydrogeological risk in the Emilia-Romagna sector. A yellow warning has also been assessed in Liguria and parts of Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna and Tuscany.

Bad weather in Liguria

After much damage from yesterday’s bad weather in Genoa, in Liguria the warning has now changed to orange (from yellow) in most areas.

During the night between Friday and Saturday a strong storm hit the west, with a peak of 74 mm in one hour and more than 230 mm in 12 hours between Melogno and Osiglia, while between Varazze and Arenzano the storm cell then moved west of Genoa, with 140 mm in six hours. Yesterday afternoon the phenomenon mainly affected the Levant region.

The following is a summary of today’s weather forecast: – Zones A and D: yellow warning from the morning, orange from 12.00 to 18.00, then yellow again until 21.00-22.00. – Zone B: yellow until 12 pm, orange until 9 pm, then yellow until 10 pm. – Zone C: yellow until 12 pm, orange until 9 pm, then yellow until 10 pm. – Zone E: yellow until 12 noon, orange from 12 noon until 9 pm, then yellow until 10 pm. In large river basins, a yellow warning remains in effect for flooding occurring in river beds. Strong, stationary thunderstorms are expected, capable of causing flooding, landslides and the rapid rise of small canals in already water-saturated land. The phenomenon is likely to end tomorrow morning.
