Bruno Retailleau had proposed this action, and it was censored by the Constitutional Council in August. Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez said he supports the new text on extending the duration of confinement in administrative detention centers for foreigners deemed dangerous, in an interview with La Tribune Dimanche.
“I support extending the maximum retention period to 210 days. My predecessor requested that the articles that had been rewritten by the Constitutional Council be rewritten so that they were compliant and this wording suited me,” said the Minister of Finance.
“When this text is validated by Matignon, it will be the subject of a draft law drawn up by the representative of the Ensemble pour la République, Charles Rodwell,” said Laurent Nuñez.
Applies to those convicted of terrorism
In early August, the Constitutional Council repealed most of the law that specifically provided for the extension of the detention period in administrative detention centers (CRA) from 90 (three months) to 210 days (seven months) for certain foreigners deemed dangerous. This duration currently only applies to people convicted of terrorism.

Bruno Retailleau, then Minister of the Interior, had promised a new version of the law, targeting foreigners awaiting expulsion for being convicted of certain serious offenses or posing a “very serious” threat to public order, or having been convicted of certain serious crimes or offenses (murder, rape, drug trafficking, aggravated theft with violence, etc.).
