“Creeping waves” caused by wind

Weather experts suspect the family was shocked by a so-called “sneaker wave.” This wave was much bigger than the other waves and suddenly flooded the beach.

It wasn’t the heavy rain that caused the waves, but the wind: winds swept across the Pacific coast at speeds of up to 112 km/h during the storm. Therefore, the weather service had previously issued a warning message for the area.
