The casting is already known. Corentin Moutet, ranked 35th in the world, and Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, ranked 59th, have been included in France’s selection for the final phase of the Davis Cup, which starts this Tuesday in Bologna, the French Tennis Federation announced on Sunday.
The French selection will also consist of Arthur Rinderknech (29), Benjamin Bonzi (94) and doubles specialist Pierre-Hugues Herbert, who was already present in captain Paul-Henri Mathieu’s first list announced on October 20.
The press release published on Sunday by FFT formalized the withdrawal of Ugo Humbert (37), called up to the first selection but missing the final phase due to a back injury.
Second to Moutet
France, playing the Davis Cup final for the first time since 2019, must face Belgium in the quarter-finals on Tuesday. Matches will be played as best-of-three matches (two singles then doubles if tied), unlike the two qualifying rounds which are played as best-of-five matches.
After scoring two of France’s three points against Croatia in September during the second qualifying round of the final phase, Moutet was called up for the second time in blue at the age of 26. Mpetshi Perricard (22 years old) celebrates his third selection. In February, Lyonnais brought a point to the French team in a 4-0 win against Brazil in the first round of qualifying. But in Croatia, the main service giant has not played a single match.
