The big ski nations defeated, the Brazilians celebrate the first slalom of the season: former Norwegian Lucas Pinheiro Braathen provides a historic moment for his new home. German hope Linus Straßer fell behind in the second half.

Ski racer Linus Straßer suffered a setback in the first World Cup slalom of the season in Levi, Finland. The 33 year old racer who was still in fourth place after the first round had to settle for 15th place after Lucas Pinheiro Braathen’s historic victory. After his big moment in the finish area, Braathen dropped to his knees, deeply moved.

Brazilian Braathen won in cold weather of minus twelve degrees ahead of Olympic champion Clement Noel (France/+0.31 seconds) and the very strong Finn Eduard Hallberg (+0.57). Born in Norway, Braathen was the first person to ensure Brazil won a World Cup in the winter. Straßer was 1.51 seconds behind on the “Levi Black” slope.

Sebastian Holzmann was unable to qualify for the second round on his return after tearing a ligament in 47th place. For Anton Tremmel and Dominik Zerhoch on their World Cup debut, it was also all over after the first round.
