He’s the one who caught the attention of Hertha-MV and has a lot to say!
During the presentation for the selection of the Council of Elders, the candidates have two minutes to speak on stage. Former Hertha vice-president Peter Gayda (79), who saved the club from bankruptcy in the mid-80s with guarantees and loans (BILD reports), talked for six minutes!
Four and a half minutes later, the legendary warning bell was used for the first time, as a signal that time had elapsed. Five minutes later, the new chairman of the meeting, Dr. Roland Kühne (who replaced Dr. Dirk Lentfer after 17 years) politely: “Mr Gayda, please finish!”
“I think he felt…”: TV pundits have CLEAR feelings about Upamecano!
After 35 years, former deputy Peter Gayda (79) returns to the Hertha committee
With the legendary light blue training jacket that was previously the trademark of the late Hertha President Kay Bernstein († 43), he explained Gayda twin jacket then finally: “Kay and I have become close friends. That’s why I want to join the Council of Elders to act as a moral eye to monitor whether the positive things Kay created here (with the Berlin Way, ed.) are developed further. I guarantee one thing: I won’t let you down!”
After much applause, Gayda was elected to the seven-member committee along with Barbara Wegner-Ottow, Klaus-Dieter Böhlo, Detlef Dames, Wilhelm Hennig, Helmut Klopfleisch and Horst Kuffler.
Gayda returns to the Hertha committee after a 35 year break!
In 1990, following Hertha’s promotion to the Bundesliga, he relinquished his deputy position and emigrated to Florida. The love for Hertha remains forever. He has been a Hertha fan for 60 years and a Hertha member for 40 years. It’s not surprising that Gayda talked a lot on stage wearing a Bernstein jacket.
When asked by BILD, he explained with a wink: “I want to tell my story to the young Herthaners. Two minutes is too short.”
By the way: The bells remained silent for the remainder of the seven-hour meeting.
