The death of Leonardo Fiorini, a 27-year-old man who fell from the third floor of a B&B in Rome’s Monteverde district on the evening of November 13, is full of questions. Yesterday the investigating judge confirmed the arrest of David Stojanovic, 25, a long-time friend of the victim, under investigation for voluntary killing. The boy, who was arrested hours after the tragic event and later released, gave his version of what happened. A story that, according to investigators, clashes with the testimony of residents via San Calepodio, where the accommodation facility where the tragedy was located is located. While awaiting the results of the autopsy and toxicology tests, investigators are evaluating the exact timing and circumstances in an effort to reconstruct the dynamics of the incident.
What we know about Fiorini’s final hours
As reported by Corriere della Sera, that night the two friends met at around 18.00 in the B&B room that Fiorini had rented. They decided not to go out. At 9pm they consume (hypothetically both) cannabinoid-infused cigarettes while chatting on the couch. About 50 minutes later, at 9:50 p.m., they ordered takeout. But that dinner, delivered to the two boys by a rider, would not be consumed. Based on Stojanovic’s report, in fact at 10 pm Fiorini began to show certain anxiety. He said he wasn’t feeling well and was worried he wouldn’t be able to recover. His friend tried to reassure him and suggested that he rest. The boy went to sleep, but continued to be restless and woke up three times. Then the situation got worse.
Argument and escape from B&B
Based on Stojanovic’s report, at around 22.30, Fiorini started babbling. To the point of taking off his clothes, screaming and destroying the TV in the room. His friend tried to calm him down, but the 27-year-old man opened the window and intended to jump out. A version that completely contradicts the one given by residents of via San Calepodio and in particular by a woman, who claimed that it was Stojanovic who pushed Fiorini from the balcony. Another witness spoke of a heated argument, “lasted for hours“, between the two friends. What is the truth?
Investigating judge: “Insufficient evidence for arrest”
The suspect, who tested positive for cannabinoid use, was charged with premeditated murder. In’order authorized the arrest, the investigating judge determined that “At this time, there is not enough evidence of guilt emerging against Stojanovic“such as to justify the implementation of preventive measures. As for the statement, according to the investigating judge”these are declarative sources that are all consistent in stating that the suspect grabbed Fiorini’s leg to prevent a fall“. For their jury who appeared, in fact,”conflicting about what happened in the minutes before the fall and, in particular, about how it happened“27 year old”he climbed over the parapet of the balcony and then fell to the ground, a circumstance fundamental to understanding the precise dynamics of the event for the purposes of proper legal qualification.“.
Regarding the version given by the suspect, while waiting for the results of other investigations, the investigating judge wrote that “seems credible“, cannot exclude”psychotic reactions, as described by the suspect, following the use of cannabinoids by young people who only used them occasionally“.
