A shallow argument over scratch cards, then a stabbing. This is how Mariella Chiari, 81 years old, was murdered at the hands of her husband Renato Bianchi, 78 years old in the living room of his house last night in Mesanzana (Varese). The man allegedly struck her in the chest several times with a kitchen knife, then placed the weapon against the now lifeless woman’s chest and went downstairs to the semi-detached house, where her daughter lived with her husband and three grandchildren.
Bianchi was arrested and said to be “in a state of psychological fragility”, as also revealed by a conversation with prosecutor Federica Racanello who coordinated the investigation carried out by the carabinieri of the Luino company.
Scratch Card Scramble
The interrogation did not reveal any circumstances of dispute or grudge that could have led to the vicious attack. “The behavior can be traced back, according to the findings of the first investigation, to vain reasons related to the habit of playing cards early” we read in the note issued by the Varese prosecutor Antonio Gustapane.
Apparently both couples have a penchant for gambling and luck. “However, the man appears to be in a state of real psychological fragility, also supported by the same statement made to the judge, which in some parts is fragmentary and lacks logical coherence,” we continued to read in the prosecutor’s statement.
Precisely for this reason, with the aim of avoiding self-inflicted actions, Bianchi was taken to the San Vittore prison in Milan, better prepared for special protection, awaiting the definition of further procedural documents.
