Bocellari-Bruzzone final match: "You can’t imagine this"storyline on TV

The TV clash between lawyer Giada Bocellari and criminologist Roberta Bruzzone emerged when lawyer Alberto Stasi, along with Antonio De Rensis, produced an empty file, his client’s psychiatric medical records. Bruzzone on Orte 14 Sera, Milo Infante’s program on Rai2, concentrated its analysis on the many pornographic photos and videos found on Stasi computers. For criminologists, this aspect of his personality would be very important in the evaluation, considering his beliefs.

“I underestimated how important public opinion is in a case like this. The judge was a man. Alberto Stasi was found guilty first by public opinion. He arrived in the courtroom already convicted” said Bocellari. “The most glaring mistake the investigators made – he said – was that they fell for the killer boyfriend thesis and stopped there, ignoring and not looking for other paths”. Then he turned directly to Bruzzone.

“I have spoken to my client about my presence here and he has expressly permitted me,” said the lawyer while showing an envelope. Stasi “has been in prison since 2015 and has begun to observe his personality. He has undergone several psychological sessions with a prison psychologist with the team that compiled the report. What has been reported in the last few months is only a small part, including that the quote is not a quote from the report, but rather a quote from the provisions of a previous supervision court,” he said, referring to several assessments regarding the consumption of pornographic material. “It is important for me to allow, with the consent of my client, Dr. Bruzzone to publish, if he has, all of Alberto Stasi’s medical records with sensitive data also referring to aspects related to sexual aspects.” A way out that looks like a challenge: Bocellari wants to underline that Bruzzone’s assessment is based in part on press information and well-known quotes from “horrific and violent” photo and video material.

“I use what is published, in quotes, in newspapers, so if you were to tell me now that journalists write rubbish, I would note that, but since it is an important publication, which you also often leave behind in interviews, I think that is correct information. So it is not true that the colleague defined the material as violent and horrific?”.

The lawyer instead highlighted how an assessment conducted on Stasi by a prison psychologist outlined a profile that was not abnormal. Bocellari responded that the phrase was “an endorsement of the Supreme Court’s ruling. Have you read the report?”. “I can imagine it”, answered Bruzzone with the Stasi lawyer replying: “I guarantee you can’t imagine it, if you read it in its entirety you will be able to confirm the absence of paraphilic psychopathology and completely normal psychosexual development”. According to Bruzzone, this is impossible given the material in the possession of the Stasi, while Bocellari underlines that prison psychologists have excluded any pathology related to this aspect of the Stasi.
