Death of Xavier Emmanuelli, founder of Samu social – Liberation

Xavier Emmanuelli, founder and honorary president of Samu social and recognized for his humanitarian commitment, died this Sunday, November 16 in Paris after feeling unwell “maybe heart”, the organization announced. He is 87 years old.

Also one of the founders of Médecins sans frontières, an organization that received the Nobel Peace Prize, Xavier Emmanuelli founded Samu social de Paris in 1993 which, among other things, helps homeless and highly vulnerable people and directs them to accommodation via the emergency number 115.

The doctor, who comes from Corsica and his parents, also entered the world of politics between May 1995 and June 1997, holding the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs responsible for Emergency Humanitarian Action under the leadership of Jacques Chirac.

In X, the Mayor of Bastia, Pierre Savelli, said so “sad” And “shared the pain of his loved ones and everyone who continues his fight for the most vulnerable.”
