At least five people died and twenty-one people were injured, many seriously: this is the number of victims of a series of traffic accidents that occurred in Piedmont, Lombardy, Liguria, Basilicata, Puglia and Tuscany. Another tragic bulletin, even with criminal implications, appeared on World Road Victims Remembrance Day.

In the incident in Milan which occurred at around 06.30, a rented Mercedes G-Class SUV collided with an Opel Corsa. Based on initial reconstruction, the driver of the first vehicle was a twenty-year-old without a driver’s license, but was not injured. He told local police that he got off the tram and was covered in blood because he had administered first aid, but this contradicted the ATM camera image and was later identified as the possible driver of the SUV, in which one of his shoes was found, by one of the actual rescuers. After hearing the police’s statement, he waited for provisions from the judicial authorities.

There were three other boys in the rental car with him: a twenty-year-old who died in the hospital, a thirty-year-old who was hospitalized with a poor prognosis, and a twenty-three-year-old with a code yellow. In Corsa there was a 32 year old man who tested positive for narcotics and was hospitalized with a code yellow. Both vehicles were traveling at high speed.
The young victim of the accident in Cervasca, Cuneo area, was Gaia Conte, 19 years old, from Dronero (Cuneo). The girl was driving her car on provincial road 422 when, around 5 a.m., her car overturned and caught fire. A 58-year-old man, Vincenzo Mele, also lost his life this morning in an accident on the former state road 580, on the route between Ginosa and Marina di Ginosa (Taranto). While riding a motorbike he collided with a car.
Vincenzo Bochicchio, from Maschito (Potenza), was 22 years old and died yesterday evening in a traffic accident that occurred on the Oraziana road, near Ripacandida (Potenza). Three other people were injured in the accident involving two cars, including one with a code red. And a twenty-two-year-old died outside Arezzo after his car hit a tree along regional road 327.
In addition, the condition of the three young people injured in the accident in Liguria that occurred on the A12 last night remains serious. A Fiat Panda with 5 young people in it (the other two were not so serious) collided with an escort vehicle for extraordinary transport. A 21-year-old man from Brianza was also injured and hospitalized in very serious condition following a road accident that occurred early this morning on the A36 Pedemontana in Bregnano (Como). Nine other people did not suffer serious injuries in the pileup.
