We owe him Social Samu. Xavier Emmanuelli died at the age of 87 after a “possible heart attack,” the organization announced this Sunday.

Also one of the founders of Médecins sans frontières, an organization that received the Nobel Peace Prize, Xavier Emmanuelli founded Samu social de Paris in 1993 which exists, among other things, to help the homeless and those in precarious conditions and direct them to accommodation via the emergency number 115. He then founded Samu social international in 1998.

Former Minister of State for Emergency Humanitarian Action (1995-1997), trained anesthesiologist-resuscitator, Xavier Emmanuelli “marked the history of solidarity in France and in the world”, underlining Samu’s international social status in his press release.

The organization paid “honor to this extraordinary figure for his relentless commitment to the association he led for more than 25 years and the causes he championed.”

“Today, from Cairo to Lima, from Bucharest to Dakar, there are more than fifteen social emergency services helping homeless adults, street children, refugees and displaced people, all living in extremely dangerous conditions,” he underlined.

On Sunday, Xavier Emmanuelli “suffered a heart attack” and his life “suddenly ended”, said Samu international social president Jacques Carles. “Today we are in pain,” he added.
