Firefighters in action: explosion and fire in Mainz residential building – six people injured

Six people were injured in an explosion followed by a fire at an apartment building in Mainz on Sunday evening. When emergency services arrived, part of the entrance area had collapsed and fire was burning from the ground floor, they said firefighter with.

The house on the corner of Kreyßigstrasse and Goethestrasse was originally only accessible via a turntable staircase. Two people have to be saved like this. Three other people suffered smoke inhalation and one person had a heart attack. All the injured people were taken to hospital.

The fire was extinguished after about an hour. About 110 people from the fire brigade, rescue services and technical assistance agency (THW) are on duty. According to THW, the house is not considered to be in danger of collapsing, but rather is uninhabitable. Police are investigating the cause of the explosion. Information on the extent of damage was not initially available.
