Once the signal box lights up at Gerwisch, RE1 runs between them Magdeburg and Berlin again. Until the schedule change on December 14, RE1 will resume hourly operations, Deutsche Bahn announced. Several goods trains have resumed operating on this route since last week.
Based on information, a total of three passenger and goods trains can operate per hour and direction. This is equivalent to 80 percent of the train volume operating before the fire on September 23.
There are still some limitations
Restrictions remain strict German trains there is: RB40 between Braunschweig and Burg continues to end in Biederitz. A replacement train service continues to operate between Biederitz and Burg. RE1 also does not serve all stops. In addition, travel time increases. Long-distance traffic continues to be diverted.
The signal box at Gerwisch burned down on 23 September. A new one will be built there. DB estimates the time until commissioning is twelve months. Since the fire there has been a replacement of the train service between Möser and Magdeburg. Since the fire, passengers have had to wait for replacement buses and diversions. ICE and IC trains take about 45 minutes longer to travel.
