The clubs in the neighborhood are doing well economically, but not so well in terms of sports.
Sports crisis FC St Pauliwho’s on Bundesliga who recently recorded seven defeats and plunged into relegation, was surprisingly only a side topic at the recently held general meeting.
Confidence in the team and head coach Alexander Blessin (52) remains high. There were also words of encouragement and expressions of support from re-elected President Oke Göttlich (49) in the presence of sports director Andreas Bornemann (54).
“We shouldn’t be surprised”: DFB stars react to Sané’s return
Blessin and his team are now starting to prepare for the home match against Union Berlin on Sunday (17.30/live DAZN). Victory is almost mandatory to avoid slipping further into the dungeon.
And what if things keep changing until the short winter break? So of course Bornemann still has the option to make improvements. So far he has always shown good results – and will also get the green light for that.
Will St. Pauli steps it up again in winter?
Given the good economic figures (profits of 2.09 million euros in the 2024/25 financial year), the question that arises is whether St. Pauli has sufficient funds for a possible retrofit. Be it for loans or new signings.
St. Petersburg finance boss Pauli Wilken Engelbracht (52) gave the answer: “You can assume that we can always act in urgent cases when injury situations arise. And we will look closely at this in individual cases.”
At the same time, he limited: “But now there is no fixed budget for the winter because it is just a premature situation that is not yet acute at the moment. And also a discussion that would not even arise today if you did not know what is actually needed in the winter.”
Most recently, three loan players, Noah Weißhaupt, James Sands and Siebe Van der Heyden, were recruited in January, all of whom contributed to staying in the league.
