The Ministry of Transport is preparing to invest to be able to increase the circulation of high-speed trains to 350 kilometers per hour. And the first adaptation will take place on the busiest axis in the country, the one that connects Madrid and Barcelona, a line on which the journey will go from the current 2.48 hours to 2.00 hours.
“By bringing our network to 350 kilometers per hour we will become the only country, together with China, that has an infrastructure of these characteristics. There are also European countries that are considering it, such as Poland, which still does not have a single kilometer of high speed, and the United Kingdom is developing the London Birmingham line which is expected to run at 360 kilometers per hour,” said Minister Óscar Puente during an information breakfast organized by Europa Press.
The Transport Minister assessed the efficiency in the construction projects of the public rail infrastructure manager, Adif, contrasting the high costs that the United Kingdom is bearing for the construction of its high-speed line: “They have 40,000 million and they don’t have a single kilometer of track installed. We are talking about a project that will cost 100,000 million pounds in final value for 250 kilometres. We will have invested, from the beginning (of the high speed) until the end of this year with 4,091 kilometers, approximately 70,000 million euros. We have the lowest cost per kilometer in the world.
