Europe is not ready to face a major attack by Russian drones and must integrate Ukrainian capabilities or risk making a “historic mistake”, European Defense Commissioner Andrius Kubilius assured on Monday.
“We are not ready to detect and neutralize Russian drones,” he complained in a speech in Vilnius. “Russians learn quickly. And us?”, he asked.
The war in Ukraine has changed the rules of combat, he further underscored. “Future wars will not be won with tanks and artillery, but with drones and missiles,” he assured, calling for lessons from Ukraine’s experience.
Defense in Eastern Europe and the Baltic countries in these conditions must be carried out with Ukraine, he further explained.
Soon an anti-drone wall?
“This is the only way for us to learn from Ukraine, not only how to make drones, but also how to build a whole ecosystem,” he stressed. “If we don’t do this, we will make a historic mistake that will weaken us and weaken Ukraine,” the European Commissioner warned.
Facing the possibility of a Russian attack on NATO countries, Europe is trying to strengthen its defenses, especially on the eastern side.
And faced with increasing attacks by Russian or unidentified drones, they have announced their desire to build an anti-drone wall, but the form of the wall has not yet been determined.
