Filarmonica della Scala celebrates 160 years of Il Sole 24 Ore

Concert Program. The repertoire is structured as a journey with a theme destinyKey words in newspaper history and proposed musical readings. As explained in the concert booklet, edited by the concert’s artistic director Piero MaranghiDirector of Sky Classica, a reflection of the era in which he was born Sunon 1 August 1865 as the voice of the liberal and innovative bourgeoisie, immediately leading to the post-unification of Milan and the reconciliation of relations between the city and Giuseppe Verdi; therefore a program was chosen which, in terms of its monumentality and energy, evokes the great power of history and the human spirit. The musical path develops through two large pages of the repertoire:

Johann Sebastian Bach – Chaconne from Match no. 2 in D minor BWV 1004. Transcription for orchestra by Hideo Saito. Chosen as the concert opener as a tribute to the sacred character of the CathedralThat Chaconne it is one of the most impressive works in the violin repertoire and one of the most transcribed Bach pages in history. Born as the final dance of Partita n. 2 for solo violin (1720), presented here in an orchestral version by Japanese musicians Hideo Saitoa transcription that combines Bachian rigor and late romantic sensibility. A courtyard of extraordinary architectural and spiritual intensity, as well as craftsmanship, that creates an ideal bridge between introspection, monumentality and the sacred dimension of the place that welcomes it.

Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky – Symphony No.5 in E minor op. 64. 1.Andante. Cheerful with soul; 2.Andante cantabile with some license; 3.Valse. Allegro moderator; 4.Final. Andante maestoso. Live cheerfully.The essence of this program is Fifth Symphonya work imbued – as the room notes underline – with theme destinyexpressed with recurring thematic ideas that run throughout the score. Tchaikovsky composed the symphony in 1888, at a time of intense creative activity: a work that musically addresses the tension between darkness and redemption, right up to the final transformation of the fate theme into a brilliant hymn. A choice determined by the grandeur, lyricism and monumentality of this symphony which makes it a powerful symbol of regeneration and vision, perfect to celebrate such an important anniversary..
