Bangladesh sentences former prime minister to death

Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been sentenced to death. The sentence was handed down today and follows a months-long trial, which found him guilty of crimes against humanity. Hasina was condemned for violently suppressing student protests last year, which killed around 1,400 people. Currently, Hasina is in exile in India, where she took refuge after last year’s protests; The Court’s decision can be appealed to the Supreme Court.
