Who are the new faces of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate of Chile

This Sunday, November 16, the passage of the communist Jeannette Jara and the republican José Antonio Kast to the second round of the presidential elections was defined. Parliamentary elections were held in parallel with these elections, where citizens voted to elect the 155 members of the Chamber of Deputies and to renew 23 of the 50 members of the Senate. The results, consolidated in the early hours of this Monday, confirmed the entry of several new faces to make their debut at the National Congress. Some have a political background, others are newcomers, known for being activists, journalists, influencers and even relatives of presidential standard-bearers.

José Antonio Kast Adriasola

He is the son of the Republican candidate José Antonio Kast and obtained a seat in district 10, which groups together the municipalities located in the central area of ​​the Chilean capital such as Santiago, Providencia and Ñuñoa, among others. He represented the party founded by his father and obtained 8.8% of the votes and achieved the third majority in the constituency.

Vanessa Kaiser

She is the sister of former Libertarian candidate Johannes Kaiser and lawyer Axel Kaiser. He was a municipal councilor in the municipality of Las Condes, in the eastern sector of the Chilean capital, between 2021 and 2022. He resigned from the position a few months after taking office. She was elected senator for the La Araucanía region, in southern Chile, as a representative of the National Libertarian Party. He obtained 8.9% of the votes and achieved the second majority among all candidates.

Zandra Parisi

She is the sister of former popular candidate Franco Parisi. She was elected deputy of district 12, which includes municipalities in the southeast of Santiago such as La Florida, Puente Alto and La Pintana, among others. Parisi obtained only 2.5% of the votes, but obtained the seat thanks to the large vote obtained by his listmate, the deputy Pamela Jiles.

Javiera Rodriguez

She is a journalist, illustrator, student leader and speaker on radio and television programs. She is one of the young representatives of the Chilean right. She managed to be elected deputy of the Republican Party after obtaining 4.9% of the votes in constituency 9, which includes municipalities in the northwestern sector of Santiago such as Recoleta and Renca, Conchalí, among others.

Javier Olivares

Communicator and television presenter. In the 2000s it encouraged youth programs Tremendous shock AND Mecano. He lived in the United States and worked at Telemundo and Univisión. In recent years he has become known for launching harsh criticisms against the left through social networks. He was elected deputy of district 6, which brings together the municipalities of the interior of the Valparaíso region such as Quillota, Quilpué, San Felipe and Los Andes, among others, as a representative of the Popular Party. He obtained 5.4% of the valid votes.

Gustavo Gatica

Psychologist and activist. He is, together with Senator Fabiola Campillai, one of the emblematic victims of eye trauma recorded during the social epidemic of 2019. He was elected deputy in district 8, which includes municipalities in the western area of ​​Santiago such as Maipú, Pudahuel and Quilicura, among others, and obtained the first majority with 12% of the votes. He ran as an independent, but received support from the Communist Party.

Constance Schönhaut

The lawyer is one of the founders of the Frente Amplio, the party of president Gabriel Boric. She was elected as a representative of district 11, which includes, among others, the municipalities of Las Condes, Vitacura and Peñalolén, in the eastern sector of Santiago. Schönhaut is one of the former members of the Constitutional Convention, the assembly that drafted the constitutional proposal rejected on September 4, 2022, who obtained a seat in Congress. The other former conventionalists from different lists who made it to the Chamber of Deputies are Jaime Bassa (FA), Tatiana Urrutia (FA), Ignacio Achurra (FA), Marcos Barraza (PC), César Valenzuela (PS), Ricardo Neumann (UDI), Eduardo Cretton (UDI) and Constanza Hube (UDI). They were joined by Roberto Celedón, who already holds the position of deputy replacing his wife, the late deputy Mercedes Bulnes. Beatriz Sánchez entered the Senate.

Cristian Contreras

He is a journalist and academic, known publicly as Doctor File. He achieved public notoriety by participating in several television programs as a popularizer of conspiracy theories and pseudoscience. During the 2021 elections he founded the United Center party and attempted to run for president. In the 2025 elections he ran for deputy of the People’s Party in constituency 8, where he obtained the seat with 6.9% of the votes.

Cristian Vial

Retired Army General. He became known during the 2022 military parade, where he asked President Boric for permission to start the parade. His gesture and body posture – considered “challenging” – in front of the president provoked multiple comments on social networks. Now he has been elected senator with the first majority (almost 20% of the votes) in the Maule region. He ran on the ticket of the Republican Party.

Sebastiano Zamora

Former Carabineros official. He was charged with the crime of frustrated homicide for the fall of a minor from the Pio Nono bridge into the Mapocho river in central Santiago during a protest marking the first anniversary of the social outbreak in October 2020. The corporal, who had been discharged from the institute, was acquitted and his reinstatement in the police force was ordered. He ran for deputy in district 7, which includes, among others, the municipalities of Valparaíso, Viña del Mar, San Antonio and Easter Island, with the support of the Republican Party. He won his seat with 4.6% of the vote.

Paz Charpentier

Lawyer and founder of movements and centers of thought Voices for Chile. In 2021 she ran for the conventional constituent of the Biobío region with the support of the UDI, the traditional right, in an election in which she was defeated. In 2025 he ran for the Chamber of Deputies with the support of the Republican Party in constituency 20, which includes, among others, the municipalities of Concepción and Talcahuano. He won his parliamentary seat after obtaining 7.7% of the vote, the second district majority.

Pier Karlezi

Entrepreneur and social media personality. He hosts a podcast called Mestai Weviando (a Chilean expression for saying you’re kidding me). He became known for his participation in the political debate television program No filters. He ran for deputy of the National Libertarian Party for constituency 8, in Santiago, and was elected deputy with 3% of the votes.

Patrick Briones

Former basketball player. He was selected at a national level and is considered one of the greatest exponents of the discipline. While attending Dade University, in the United States, he had the opportunity to participate in a preparation camp for the 1994 NBA Draft. He was elected deputy of the 20th constituency, in Concepción, as a representative of the Popular Party. He won with 3.1% of the vote.
