The Netherlands celebrate a crushing win against Lithuania and can plan for the World Cup finals. On the other hand, the former Bayern goalscorer still needs to worry.

The Netherlands confidently qualified for the 2026 World Cup on the final matchday of qualifying. Coach Ronald Koeman’s team won 4-0 (1-0) against Lithuania in Amsterdam, making everything mathematically clear.

Tijjani Reijnders (16th minute) gave “Oranje” an early lead. After the break, Cody Gakpo (58), Xavi Simons (60) and Donyell Malen (62) decided the game with three goals in four minutes. Despite his comfortable starting position, Koeman relied on his regular players – his plan worked. The Netherlands finished qualifying with a three-point lead and a much better goal difference over Poland.

At the same time, Poland won 3-2 (1-1) over Malta, but still had to advance to the playoffs. Robert Lewandowski (32), Paweł Wszołek (59) and Piotr Zieliński (85) scored for a Polish side who ultimately had to rely on help. Irvin Cardona (36) and Teddy Teuma (68, penalty) equalized temporarily. However, these results do not change the constellation of the table.
