100 Rafales for Ukraine: before production, obstacles

While in France, Volodymyr Zelensky signed a “letter of intent” for the purchase of one hundred Rafale fighters, drones, SAMP-T air defense systems or AASM guided bombs, all for an estimated value of between €10 and €15 billion. However, before this intention becomes a reality, there are many obstacles that must be overcome, starting from financing the purchase. Kyiv is already experiencing financial difficulties to finance the war and may even run short of funds starting in the first quarter of 2026, with the need estimated at seventy billion € to finance the war effort. The EU committed, last October, to support Ukraine for at least the 2026-2027 period but member states have yet to agree on a solution to obtain the funds.
