Lawmakers started a new day of budget discussions with more than a thousand amendments to be vetted

The race against time continues. Debate over the budget continues on Tuesday, November 18, in the National Assembly, which has until Sunday to decide on the finance bill. Eric Coquerel, president of the LFI Finance Committee, had called for debate to continue beyond that, but said late Monday that he had received a negative response from the government. In a press release, members of Saint-Saint-Denis predicted that “Therefore, the National Assembly risks losing its voting rights within hours”and call “all political groups” to reduce the debate time to vote on at least that part “recipe”. • Polluters/taxpayers are managed by deputies. During the session, Renaissance, MoDem and Horizons deputies largely voted on the left to maintain the implementation of this tax from 2026. LR proposed to delay its implementation for one year. An environmental initiative law enacted in February specifically sets a fee to be paid by manufacturers whose factories dump PFAS into the water, at 100 euros per 100 grams, starting in 2026.

• Deputies came to the aid of Ile-de-France travelers. Elected officials sitting in the National Assembly voted for a jet tax to finance public transportation in Ile-de-France. The government must provide 88 million euros to secure the financial resources of Ile-de-France Mobilités, the regional body that manages travel. The government is proposing an increase in regional registration taxes by 12 euros. But deputies, on almost all benches, don’t want to pay motorists. Amélie de Montchalin, Minister of Public Accounts, regretted the vote, considering that “not consistent with any results”.

• Tobacco traders demonstrate in front of the Senate. A large barrel containing cartons of cigarettes was left in front of the Luxembourg Palace on Monday afternoon. Senators should begin examining the Social Security budget in session on Wednesday.

Sébastien Lecornu tries to reassure entrepreneurs. On the occasion of the Choose France summit, the Prime Minister spoke on Monday to the bosses who were concerned about the various tax increases voted for by the deputies during the budget audit. “We are currently frightening parts of the country with taxes that will never be implemented, because they are unconstitutional, because they have no basis”he said. “The danger weighing on the French economy is the absence of a budget”he added, thus justifying the compromise he was trying to make.
