A fire hit a slum in the Sant Martí neighborhood of Barcelona early this morning and caused at least two injuries. News of the accident came at seven in the morning and a dozen firefighters worked to put it out. It is not the first time that a fire has destroyed homeless settlements in this area of the Catalan capital, provoking complaints from social entities, neighbors and the municipal opposition.

In the absence of a definitive assessment of this morning’s accident, the fire caused two injuries, one due to burns, who was transferred to the Vall d’Hebron hospital, and another due to a cut that did not require hospital treatment.

Half a dozen shacks were destroyed by the fire, which hit an area where several settlements are located that are moving away from vacant lots and industrial warehouses. Today’s accident occurred precisely in Bac de Roda street, on the corner with Huelva street. Traffic had to be stopped in the area.
