A two-year-old girl died on Saturday in Borgo Valbelluna (Belluno) several hours after being discharged from the Santa Maria del Prato hospital in Feltre where she was taken on Friday evening due to respiratory problems. The Belluno District Attorney’s Office has opened an investigation, currently conducted against an unknown person, and ordered an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Ulss 1 Dolomiti has initiated an internal investigation.
Based on reports in the newspaper, the little girl had been experiencing symptoms of fever for several days accompanied by a runny nose, cough and shortness of breath. On Friday evening, his parents, concerned about his worsening condition, took him to the pediatric emergency room in Feltre where he was examined and a series of tests were performed. At the end of the tests, considering that the little girl did not appear to have any critical problems and had stable parameters, she was discharged on Saturday with follow-up therapy.
But on Saturday afternoon, the little girl’s condition suddenly worsened: the little girl became depressed and felt seriously ill. 118 emergency services could not save him. The family filed a complaint to determine whether the illness was more serious than health officials assessed.
Belluno prosecutors have entrusted the autopsy to medical examiner Antonello Cirnelli from Portogruaro, which will be carried out in the next few days.
