A thief drove a stolen wheel loader into the window of a jewelery shop and snack bar in Fürth. Police arrested the suspect inside the restaurant and confiscated the stolen jewelry. Investigators did not initially provide any information regarding the value or amount of damage.
Residents called police early this morning after hearing a loud explosion. According to the investigation, the 37-year-old suspect was responsible for driving the wheel loader through the jewelry store window. Not long afterward he continued his journey, pushing a parked car to the side, crashing into the window of a snack bar and crashing into an ATM in the entrance area.
Pretrial detention for suspects?
However, according to police, the man failed to withdraw money from the damaged ATM. Therefore he did not put up any resistance when arrested.
He must appear before an investigating judge on Tuesday, who will decide whether the 37-year-old should be detained on suspicion of robbery. Due to the possibility that he was under the influence of drugs when he committed the crime, the public prosecutor ordered a blood sample to be taken.
