He didn’t even take the time to address the victim’s health condition after the shooting. A 62-year-old American man was charged Monday with murder for killing a cleaning woman who walked through the wrong door.
The story begins on November 5, when the body of Maria Florinda Rios Perez De Velasquez, 32, was found on the steps of a house in Whitestown, a suburb of Indianapolis (United States).

By her side, her husband and partner witnessed the tragedy unfold just before 7am. The young woman, who is an employee of a cleaning company, just got the wrong address when she wanted to go to her private home. After he tried to open the house with the key for “30 seconds,” a shot was fired through the front door, killing him instantly.
According to the investigative report, Curt Andersen, the homeowner, told investigators that he and his wife were sleeping in an upstairs bedroom when he heard a noise at the door. Believing the pair were trying to break into his home, he allegedly opened fire.

The individual believed that he could benefit from the special self-defense that applies in Indiana as in 31 other American states. The law there allows homeowners to use deadly force to prevent someone from entering their home illegally.
However, according to police, there was no evidence of any violent contact with the door itself, the latch or the door frame, calling into question the use of the weapon. Curt Andersen now faces 10 to 30 years in prison and a $10,000 fine if convicted. He is being held in the Boone County Jail awaiting his initial appearance.
