On Monday night, National Police officers arrested an individual as the alleged perpetrator of the murder of his partner, in a house in San José de la Montaña, Murcia, according to sources from the Government Delegation. The officers found the already deceased victim, for whom no protection measures existed at the time despite having submitted previous complaints of mistreatment against the person now detained in 2008, 2017 and 2018.
In most cases, victims of sexist violence do not report, and they do not do so for various reasons, but above all out of fear for their own lives or that of their children, or for not being believed by the institutions, which estimate that the hidden pocket of this violence is around 80%. Since data on sexist crimes existed in 2003, only 296 of the 1,333 victims had filed a complaint before their attackers killed them; In 200 cases there was “no record” of a complaint and in 837 cases there was none.
So far this year, 38 women have been killed by their partners or ex-partners.
