Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will pay an official visit to Spain this Tuesday from France and Greece as part of a tour seeking to persuade his European allies to increase military aid to the invaded country. Zelensky began his third visit to Spain by attending the Congress, where he was received by the President of the Chamber, Francina Armengol, and the President of the Senate, Pedro Rollán. He will subsequently meet representatives of the Spanish armaments industry, King Felipe VI and the President of the Government Pedro Sánchez.
Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares announced that Spain will contribute 1,000 million euros to the purchase of military equipment from the United States for use in Ukraine, to which will be added expenditure for other types of equipment, such as generators to alleviate Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure before the arrival of winter. Zelensky plans to travel to Türkiye tomorrow, Wednesday, to “revitalize negotiations” with Moscow.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived at Congress by car at 9:36 am and surrounded by heavy security (he remained inside the vehicle for more than two minutes until he was allowed to leave). President Francina Armengol and the President of the Senate Pedro Rollán were waiting for him in the courtyard of the Chamber. After a brief greeting, dressed in black, the president had his photo taken with them and then they entered the Palace to begin their meeting. He later visited the House, as he had done on his previous trip to Spain in 2024. President Francina Armengol presented Zelensky with the customary bronze lion, while the Ukrainian leader’s gift to the Congress was a ceramic plate.
On the occasion of his third visit to Spain, the president will meet this Tuesday with representatives of the armaments industry, King Felipe VI and the president of the government, Pedro Sánchez. With the latter, the purchase of American weapons paid by Spain for Ukraine will be completed.
Before arriving at Congress, Zelensky published a message on X in which he expressed confidence that Tuesday’s meetings will strengthen his country. “Today I will hold meetings in Spain for which we have been preparing for a long time. We hope that another strong country will increase its support, helping us protect human lives and bring the end of the war closer. We are working so that the meeting with the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, results in agreements that strengthen us. Ukraine must achieve results every day in relations with its partners.”
