The sickening smell at the former Ilva factory in Taranto“suspected to be from gas” and causing “discomfort among the personnel present”. Workers’ safety representatives (Rls) from Fiom, Fim and Uilm condemned it today, Tuesday 18 November, asking for immediate intervention from Arpa Puglia and Acciaierie d’Italia. “We report that this morning, inside the factory, a nauseating odor thought to be from gas spread, making the air almost unbreathable and causing discomfort among the staff present,” we read in a safety statement from RLS sent to Arpa Puglia and Acciaierie d’Italia, which was seen by AdnKronos.
“This is not the first time that an episode like this has occurred – we read in the text – and we believe that it is unacceptable to continue breathing, even without realizing it, something that could potentially endanger one’s health. We therefore ask Arpa Puglia and the management of the Acciaierie d’Italia center to immediately intervene to determine the cause of the incident, take the necessary protective measures and prevent the recurrence of similar situations.”
