B51 between Trier and Bitburg: Truck crashes into car – four people die, including a seven-year-old girl

Four people died in a collision between a truck and a car on federal highway 51 between Trier and Bitburg. Trier police said a seven-year-old child was among the dead.

Four people died in a serious traffic accident in Rhineland-Pfalz. For reasons that are still unclear, a truck and a car collided on the federal road between Trier and Bitburg on Tuesday morning, as announced by the Trier police headquarters.

The three occupants of the car, namely a 45-year-old man, a 42-year-old woman and a seven-year-old girl, as well as a 53-year-old truck driver, died at the scene.

A contact point has been set up for relatives at the community center in Newel, police wrote. According to police, several firefighters, emergency doctors, ambulances and emergency services were on duty.

The course of the accident is still under investigation. The Trier prosecutor’s office commissioned a related report.

The closure is expected until the afternoon

Firefighters were still at the crash site at midday, cleaning up parts of the crash. The truck was lying on its side on the side of the road and the guard rail appeared to be destroyed. The second vehicle was parked across the road and emergency services had erected a privacy wall in front of it, a dpa photographer reported.

The accident occurred around 9:40 a.m., police said. The vehicles collided on the federal highway near Windmühle. Police have declared a serious accident in the morning and asked that people avoid the area as far as possible. It is said that there are a lot of deposits on B51. Federal highways are expected to remain closed through the afternoon.
