Electric Renault Twingo: how it is built and how much it costs

The third electric Renault, after the R5 and R4 inspired by Regie’s past glories, the latest electro-retro model desired by former CEO Luca de Meo, the Twingo E-Tech Electric (this is its full name) has an ambitious task: to democratize, adding a bit of glamour, a small electric car, which for the city, belongs to the so-called A segment. Based on the AmpR Small architecture (the same one used on R5, Car of the Year 2025and R4) is 3.8 meters long, withstands urban parking. It exhibits a style that recalls, in a series of references and aesthetic-functional solutions, the original 1992 model. From the round frog-shaped headlights with a smiling nose, to the sloping hood, like a micro minivan, parallel to the front pillars, to the configuration of the rear, everything always refers to the styling features of the first Twingo, including the interior. Not to mention the choice of colors with furniture elements that reflect the color of the bodywork, namely four: red, green, yellow and black. But beyond its sleek and “smart” styling (to appeal to those fascinated by the past), the new Twingo was designed on a budget. Relatively speaking anyway, the cost is 19,500 euros (not much for a small electric car but still not a negligible amount). Ultimately the price is about the same as the very affordable Leapmotor T03 but the Twingo has a different level of aesthetic refinement and brand image.

Renault Twingo E-Tech Electric, this is how the city car changes

New electric Renault Twingo

The small Renault is equipped with a 60 kW (82 hp) electric motor powered by a 27.5 kWh battery with LFP (lithium iron phosphate) chemistry that offers a range of more than 260 km according to the WLT cycle. Limited range that epitomizes the urban calling of the new e-Twingo. The car is made in Europe, at the Novo Mesto factory, Slovenia. As standard, it only offers alternating current charging up to 6.6 kW (a 5 meter Mode 3 cable is supplied, also useful for wall boxes). This way, it takes about 4 hours and 15 minutes to reach 10 to 100%. To get more, you need to buy a kit called Advanced Charge which offers 11 kW on AC and 50 kW on direct current to charge from 10 to 80% in half an hour. The price is not yet known. Of note is the standard One Pedal.

The dashboard, in all versions, offers a 7-inch digital instrument panel and 10-inch infotainment with the Android Automotive operating system and integrated Google services, including maps. We appreciate Renault’s efforts in designing a user interface dedicated to the Twingo for themes and icons and avoiding using basic Android graphics as in other brand cars. Renault has not abandoned physical controls: for climate control, for example, we find the classic knobs with integrated displays from other models. Practical and intuitive: no need to fiddle with the touch And the “four arrows” button is also clearly visible: big and red in the center of the dashboard. It seems obvious, but this is a great thing at a time when the Chinese have opted for the choice of Tesla-style simulation technology and put, in an implausible way, all the controls on the touch screen, including the mirror controls and perhaps in the ceiling lights a joy of color and sound, like a welcome sequence that invites you to enter the soundtrack developed by Jean-Michel Jarre.
