Spain will finance the purchase of American weapons for Ukraine with 100 million euros, according to sources in the delegation accompanying Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj on a visit to Madrid. The Spanish contribution will be included in a 500 million order coordinated by NATO through the PURL program (an acronym in English for “Priority Requirements List for Ukraine”), to meet the most urgent needs of the Ukrainian army, basically anti-aircraft systems to stop Russian drone and missile attacks against the country’s energy infrastructure.

Presidents Pedro Sánchez and Zelenski closed Spanish participation in this program during the meeting currently taking place in La Moncloa.

The Ukrainian president is on an official visit to Spain from France and Greece as part of a tour seeking to persuade his European allies to increase military aid to the invaded country. Zelensky began his third visit to Spain by attending the Congress, where he was received by the President of the Chamber, Francina Armengol, and the President of the Senate, Pedro Rollán. Afterwards, he had lunch with the king and met at the Indra headquarters with executives from a dozen Spanish companies.
