“I can tell you he is in incredible shape.”publisher Antoine Gallimard stated to France Inter on Tuesday, November 18, about the French-Algerian writer Boualem Sansal, whom he was able to meet after returning to France on Tuesday. “A year of isolation in his cell left no painful scars,” he assured.
“I was able to meet him (this Tuesday after the writer landed from Germany). He is fine. His hair is short, he doesn’t look like the very philosophical Boualem we know”explains the CEO of the Madrigall group, the parent company of several publishing and distribution companies including Gallimard, Flammarion and Casterman. “He told me that this year had gone quite well, that the cancer was no longer attacking at all, and he even thought that he was completely cured.”
“Today, he was very happy, because his wife was nearby, met some friends, his editor, and most importantly told himself that he would be able to go back to work.”continued Antoine Gallimard to France Inter.
Now freed after a year as a hostage in Algeria, will Boualem Sansal chronicle the year that has just passed in a book? “I asked him if he would do anything”assured Antoine Gallimard. “For now, he wants to enjoy his freedom. There, he is resting. I think he has something planned, but he always takes the time to assimilate everyday life into a more complicated text.” he pointed out.
