As some counties affected by bird flu have reached staffing limits, the state is increasing its veterinary staff. With 24 outbreaks, the districts of Cloppenburg and Oldenburg (5 outbreaks) are the most affected. The Lower Saxony Ministry of Agriculture has officially declared an animal disease crisis, as stated in a statement.
The aim of identifying the animal disease crisis in the two districts is to ease the burden on local officials and thereby increase the number of veterinary staff. This is intended to continue to ensure sampling and testing runs smoothly and quickly. Bird flu has been detected at 61 poultry farms in 11 districts since October, and has so far infected about 1,500,000 animals, he said.
