The US has approved arms shipments to Ukraine worth a total of 105 million dollars (about 91 million euros).
The package includes equipment to modernize and maintain the Patriot missile defense system from the M901 to M903 launchers, the US State Department said on Tuesday. Congress was notified of the sale. Therefore, Ukraine will finance the upgrade of the Patriot missile system.
US President Donald Trump is skeptical of military aid to Ukraine. US support for Ukraine has amounted to about $67 billion since Russia’s war of aggression began in February 2022.
Tomahawk cruise missiles will not be delivered
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj requested an additional 25 Patriot air defense systems from the US during his recent visit to the White House. Delivery of Tomahawk cruise missiles to the US is not in sight for now. Trump recently rejected the delivery. The Tomahawk cruise missile has a range of at least 1,600 kilometers and would allow Ukraine to strike deep into Russian territory.
For almost four years, Russia has attacked its neighbors almost every day with missiles and drones. Recently, Russian armed forces stepped up their attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure amid the approach of winter. Diplomatic efforts to find a peaceful solution to the Ukraine war, also pushed by US President Trump, have so far been unsuccessful.
