Dear reader,
Yesterday I went into a bar during my lunch break, it felt like it was twelve o’clock at night, it was full, noisy and the lighting was dim. The German Cocktail Championships are held – or shaken and mixed – at the Pallas Bar in Schanze. I stopped by for an hour. The ten finalists mixed their creations in a back room for a four-person jury, and each entry was broadcast on a screen for the audience.
When I arrived, André Bauer had just finished his presentation. The 36-year-old is bar manager at the Comptoir Christiana wine bar in Poppenbüttel and entered the race with the “Forest Whisper” aperitif. In addition to various types of sherry, ingredients such as a specially prepared blend of shiitake mushrooms and oolong tea, brine, peach lemonade and flambéed rosemary are also involved. It took months for the recipe to be perfect, Bauer told me. “A lot of people think we’re just throwing something together. But there’s a lot of thought that goes into it.”
Also out Hamburg is Lisa Neumann. He qualified as the winner of the junior championship. The 28-year-old started working on cocktail recipes during the pandemic. He is now a bartender at the Chug Club in St. Louis. Pauli, a bar specializing in tequila and mezcal. So it’s no surprise that Neumann’s “Dipity” also contains tequila.
The bartenders don’t just mix cocktails for the judges, they also tell the stories. Lisa Neumann got the idea for the drink while on a summer date with her boyfriend; there’s a wonderful cherry-herb-nut dessert that models the cocktail. During her performance, Lisa was very excited: not only her shaker trembled, but also her hands and voice; he even made a mess when it was served. “It didn’t have to happen,” he said afterward. But the moderation duo who comment on each segment are very enthusiastic and predict a bright future for him.
And actually, that was enough for second place! Jakob Schröder of Cologne won the championship title. André Bauer was ninth.
By the way, I was able to sip the drink from two hamburgers and it made me want to go to the bar the next night with friends. If you feel the same way: Some time ago my colleagues made a list of six recommendations (Z+), some of which also offer non-alcoholic cocktails.
Greetings and see you again!
Sincerely, Viola Diem

The aim is to roll back the original plan to make the city climate neutral by 2045, as the previous five-year goal would have threatened the economy and social peace. The SPD rejected the initiative.

The documents explained that the deaths of the family of four were mainly caused by chemical poisoning at the hotel, state broadcaster TRT reported, citing inconclusive documents. The possibility of food poisoning is considered low.

TODAY’S TOPIC
Eloquent, cool, radical
Joe Adade Boateng is the face of Muslim Interactive. Now the group has been banned. ZEIT: Hamburg editor Christoph Heinemann has written the latest status; read the excerpt here.
This time he was silent, no posts TikTokthere are no new videos on Instagram. Since the Muslim Interaktiv group was banned by the Federal Ministry of the Interior on the morning of November 5 (Z+), Hamburg security officials have increasingly searched social media for the whereabouts of Joe Adade Boateng. When he, the 26-year-old spokesman for the Islamist group, will appear again.
Boateng stood in Steindamm, Hamburg, in front of 2,300 demonstrators as Muslim Interaktiv called for a caliphate based on Sharia law in 2024. He shouted, “The whole country knows my name!” He was already viewed by the authorities as a leader, and also as a prime example of a new type of religious fanatic: eloquent, sportsmanlike, cool, and radical. Boateng criticized online that Muslims in Germany were systematically excluded and unwanted. The problem is that Muslim Interactive brings this accusation against itself, according to its motto: Whoever wants to ban us, is banning Islam itself.
This is why the state wants to review the ban very carefully. He fought for more than a year to gather evidence that the group was a threat to the Basic Democratic Order of Freedom. It seems difficult to find evidence that the group is not only radical, but also opposes the constitution – and supports Islamic theocracy. But now the Federal Ministry of the Interior issued a ban on the group, and their channels on Instagram and YouTube immediately disappeared. Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) gave the reasons for the ban: It can be proven that the group wants to abolish democracy and the rule of law and deny Israel’s right to exist. Don’t let them destroy society with their hatred. Hamburg Interior Senator Andy Grote (SPD) emphasized that Muslim Interaktiv primarily incites the younger generation against the state. “TikTok Islamism” has now been dealt a serious blow.

In the morning at the doctor’s office. Blood sampling, fasting, run like an assembly line. The doctor’s assistant had already removed the cannula. “I didn’t see,” I said and looked away. He replied: “Me too!”
