Letters to Santa Claus: Himmelsthür Christmas post office is open – many letters are already there

About 1,500 letters from domestic and foreign children have arrived: The Himmelsthür Christmas post office in Hildesheim opened this Wednesday. Deutsche Post employees read and answer them. A new story is intended to give children excitement before the festival and shorten the time waiting for gifts, according to a spokesperson DHL announced. The prerequisite for a reply is that the sender’s information is legible and correct.

The Christmas post office was founded in the 1960s, when the first letters to Santa Claus arrived in Himmelsthür. Thousands of children from all over the world are now writing their hopes and greetings, as well as their worries and requests to Santa Claus.

About 47,000 letters last year

Last year 47,000 letters, mostly from Germany, reached the Natal post office, the spokesman said. To ensure that all letters can be answered in time for the festival, they must be received at the post office by December 12, according to DHL.

However, the Natal Post Office team had not come for several years Hildesheimbut at the Pattensen mail center in Hanover county. Postal workers and volunteers answered the mail.

More Christmas post offices will open next week

Lower Saxony has two more Natal post offices. In addition to Himmelsthür, offices in Himmelpforten in the Stade district will open on November 28 and in Nikolausdorf in the Cloppenburg district from November 24.
