Yvelines: welcome to the only secondary school in Île-de-France that guides the blind to independence

It’s time to rest in room F 300. With her nose between her legs, parallel to the linoleum, Reiko enjoys her morning rest. The 5-year-old Saint-Pierre knows the mission by heart. For two and a half years, he shared the daily life of Romane, 16, who accompanied him on all his travels. Including in class. The teenager and his dog first arrived at Louis-Bascan. Since 2004, this secondary school in Rambouillet (Yvelines) has been the only school in Île-de-France to offer an Ulis section (local unit for educational inclusion) intended for students with visual impairment (VFD). Of the 15 high school students in this unit, 3 were in second place in general, 6 in first place, 1 in CAP catering, and 5 in final year.

Coming from Yvelines, Val-d’Oise and Seine-et-Marne, 7 of them are housed in Islamic boarding schools. Others are dropped off by taxi every morning in front of the building, one of France’s largest, housing 2,500 students on a 17-hectare campus.
