“Italian is a source of knowledge and our culture is rooted in this language. In European institutions, multilingualism is one of the fundamental points and Italian occupies a special place that we want to protect”.
The President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, stated this in a video message sent to the first conference on Italophony taking place at Villa Madama.
“The Italian language has influenced the world far beyond the borders of Europe, Italian is spoken from America, Africa to Asia, the Italian language continues to grow connected with communities that pass on its knowledge with pride”, added Metsola, who stated that Italian is “a symbol of European culture and unity and the legacy of those who love and speak Italian in the world”.
