The government has decided to speed up the delivery twelfth arms package to Ukraine: That Defense Minister Guido Crosetto he will present it to Copasir (Parliamentary Committee for Security of the Republic) on Tuesday 25 November at 17.00, bringing the meeting forward a week compared to the call for 2 December set for Monday. The decision was conveyed to Copasir on Tuesday. An inter-ministerial decision was signed but, like previous decisions, it was kept secret. It is possible that the new package contains ammunition for the Samp-T anti-missile system that Italy has transferred to Kiev.
The delivery of this new weapons package comes after days of tension between the government and the government Matteo Salvini League who has repeatedly said he opposes the new aid: “A scandal is emerging, it involves the Ukrainian government, so I don’t want the money of Italian workers and pensioners to fuel further corruption. I don’t think that sending more arms will solve the problem, at least to think that sending arms to Kiev means Ukraine can regain lost ground is naive,” Salvini said.
The Supreme Defense Council met on Monday, chaired by President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella, which nevertheless confirmed military support for Kiev. On Wednesday the League’s deputy secretary, Roberto Vannacci, spoke with Finished confirmed the Northern League’s statement: “For 4 years, unlimited support for Ukraine in terms of resources and weapons did not produce results.
