Cloudfare outage: why 20% of the global Internet is still down

Some giant coughed and part of the Internet caught a cold. Coming a month after the major failures of Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Microsoft Azure, Cloudflare’s failure on Tuesday was a reminder of the fragility of our digital services and their dependence on a few corporate heavyweights. Most Americans structure their use of the Internet, a network that is theoretically decentralized but concentrated in actors with clear and important roles.
