«There is a new element, my father did not commit suicide»

“For us today is a new beginning. As far as I’m concerned, it doesn’t end here: I’ve started a new investigation and we have several elements, some of them quite important, that until now have not been revealed. We are still working but there are some details that don’t kill us.” This shocking revelation was a shock Maria TuziBrigadier Santino’s daughter who committed suicide in 2008 after claiming to see him Serena Mollicone entered the barracks on 1 June 2001, at the second appeal hearing for the murder, in which the former Arce carabinieri station commander, Franco Mottola, his son Marco and his wife Anna Maria were accused of involvement in the murder.

«I have sent a ballistics expert who did important work on the photos of the gun (which Tuzi allegedly used to shoot himself) – he said – We are also looking for forensic doctors and graphologists who can help us understand more than what we already know.

I almost always say it, my father could not have committed suicide or if he did it was not for passionate reasons – he continued – My father had no reason to commit suicide, he had just become a grandfather, my child was only 10 months old, and the first time he was moved was when they handed my child in his arms. There is no feeling stronger than his feelings for my child. I can’t believe my father committed suicide.”

Regarding Tersigni’s confession at the trial, he added: «He was my father’s superior but he did not take part in the investigation of the Serena case and he gathered his trust as a friend, not as a superior. The belief that confirmed my father’s statement, namely seeing Serena enter the barracks. My father described Serena’s clothing and the description matched what she was wearing when she was found dead. Tersigni was one of the first people to arrive on the scene.”
