Nearly 1,200 sports bans were announced since 2019 following a report in Signal-Sports

Since December 2019, nearly 1,200 administrative prohibition measures have been taken against people overseeing sports activities, following reports of violence, especially sexual, via the Signal-Sports platform, the Ministry of Sports said in a press release, Wednesday 19 November.

This report was published on the occasion of the introduction, on the same day, for almost 330,000 physical activity and sports venues (EAPS), the obligation to display information on their premises about the existence of a national unit for processing reports of violence in sport, which was launched six years ago.

Posters must be printed “paper backing”with a minimum format of A3, and placed “in a place visible to everyone”such as an entrance hall, changing room, or activity room. It contains contact details for contacting Signal-Sports as well as a support system for victims or witnesses.

703 reports by 2025

Since the creation of the system, 3,100 reports have been received and analyzed, the Sports Ministry told Agence France-Presse. Originally structured to receive reports of sexual and gender-based violence, it now also includes physical and psychological violence, discrimination, hazing, and control situations.

Based on data from last June, 60% of reports were related to sexual violence and 40% were psychological violence.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Sports reported that 4.4 million criminal background checks have been carried out since the implementation of the regulations in 2021. “reputation check”which initially concerned volunteer sports instructors before expanding to other categories, such as referees or lifeguards.

In this context, “1,000 people were subject to administrative action in the form of dismissal from society”which prohibits them from exercising supervisory or managerial functions throughout the country. “A damning observation”ministry estimates.
