The Municipal Police sealed three clandestine beauty clinics in the Usera neighborhood of Madrid, whose operators carried out treatments without qualification and without the necessary health measures, as well as illegally marketing drugs.
Municipal police sources reported this on Wednesday, underlining that in three of the checks carried out, serious irregularities were detected that could pose risks to public health and practices constituting alleged crimes of professional intrusion.
The first recognition took place at the beginning of June in a center dedicated to acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine, where diagnoses and medical prescriptions were carried out without qualifications. Once at the plant, the officers ascertained the sanitary deficiencies in which they were operating. “There were insects, decaying plant products and even a dog, in addition to the illegal sale of medicines,” the same sources underline. Likewise, they found bags containing loose tablets, without information leaflet, contraindications or information on doses, which had been mixed by an unqualified person, putting the health of potential customers at risk and violating the regulations on the trade and distribution of medicines.
For all these reasons, all the material was involved, which amounted to a total of 1,775 units, among which methylprednisolone stood out, a drug indicated, among others, for severe allergic reactions, rheumatic diseases and various types of cancer.
The second intervention took place on September 19, when it was discovered that a beauty center was advertising medical treatments on social networks for which it did not have authorization, including the removal of warts, tattoos, melanomas or lipolaser.
Non-prescription drugs
During the inspection they found prescription drugs, cosmetics with banned substances, non-approved machinery and unqualified personnel, for which they seized 32 drugs, 7 cosmetics, various irregular cosmetics and a laser machine that did not comply with European regulations.
On October 3, they supervised a factory that continued to operate after its license was revoked and brought it to an end microblading (semi-permanent makeup technique that creates natural-looking eyebrows)micropigmentation, tattoos, hyaluronic acid injections and tattoo removal without health authorization. At the store they found they were also reusing needles, using laser machines without approval and stocking poorly labeled products.
In total, the Municipal Police intervened on 761 products, including 496 cosmetics (many expired or without labeling in Spanish), eight cosmetics, 39 dyes of Chinese origin without registration and 229 drugs such as anesthetics, lidocaine, patches, creams and injectables.
All interventions culminated in the closure of the establishments and the execution of the procedures or their making available to the Community of Madrid and the judicial authority.
