from Julia Haiminger
In November 2023, a 22-year-old man is said to have raced through zone 30 in Mönchengladbach at speeds of up to 110 kilometers per hour – and crashed into a taxi in the process. The driver was seriously injured. It is suspected that the cause of the accident then fled the scene with his colleagues.
The trial began after a speeding accident
The trial of the defendant Ayman J. began at the Mönchengladbach District Court on Wednesday (20 November). According to prosecutors, the German-Moroccan man had previously rented a Tesla from an acquaintance because he himself did not have a driver’s license. He was said to have been behind the wheel while under the influence of cocaine and marijuana. Three friends were in the car. A taxi driver was injured in the collision. He suffered a broken inner ankle, multiple hematomas, and a bruised chest. Damage: around 60,000 euros. The defendant was charged with intentionally endangering road traffic and participating in a prohibited motor vehicle race. If convicted, he faces up to five years in prison. The decision will be taken in December.
