HE provides insight into her emotional world.
Almost a year ago, what happened to DFB and Leipzig star Benjamin Henrichs (28), was the idea of real horror for every footballer. Shortly before Christmas, in the match at Bayern Munich (1:5), the right-footer suffered an Achilles tendon injury in the last minutes. Now he speaks on the “Playmakers – from all sides” podcast about his long journey back to the pitch.

Benjamin Henrichs talks about his time of suffering

Henrichs said: “I went to rehab and said to myself, I’m the one who can survive after five months. I’m the one who can come back the quickest.” But things were different. Instead of returning quickly, he ended up back on the operating table due to constant pain, which he had also trained himself to do.

For the right-back, who moved from Monaco to Leipzig in the summer and previously starred in the Bundesliga for Bayer Leverkusen’s youth team, this is the first serious injury he has ever suffered. A fate he must first learn to face. The first few months were tough for him, so training in the same gym as his teammates would tire him out. “Because it was very difficult for me to see and accept that the players were coming out, that there were so many new players there and that they were talking about it when they came in after training. And at the same time you yourself were so far away from it.” Soon he will train elsewhere. “I’m just at the beginning of rehab, I think for the first seven or eight months I was just training down in the running tube. We have two gyms there and I actually spent more time with the women’s team for the first seven or eight months.”

Touch: One of the people who has given him a lot of support so far is Bayern star and DFB captain Joshua Kimmich (30). Henrichs explained: “He writes to me most often, almost every two weeks, ‘How are you? What’s the latest? We need you! We miss you!’ This is absolutely crazy. If you think about how often he asks, how worried he must be too. Also Jona, my older brother (meaning Jonathan Tah) and the people at my club, of course.” That said, “it’s not easy to stay positive all the time, especially when there are setbacks.”
