Soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo visited the US President months before the World Cup. And the Portuguese has big fans in the Trump family.
Soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo’s visit to the White House apparently made Donald Trump’s son happy. According to the AP news agency, the US President said that his 19-year-old son, Barron, is a “huge fan” of the outstanding Portuguese player who works for Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr.
“Barron got to meet him. And I think he has more respect for his father now, just because I introduced you to him,” Trump said of the 40-year-old Ronaldo. The record player and goalscorer from Portugal wants to appear again at the World Cup next year. The tournament will be held in the US, Canada and Mexico.
Saudi Arabia uses Ronaldo as ambassador
At a meeting and dinner in the capital Washington, Ronaldo was part of the entourage of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Ronaldo has been under contract with the Saudi Arabian first division club since 2022.
The 2034 World Cup will be held in Saudi Arabia. The awards there have been controversial, partly because of the human rights situation. Ronaldo has promoted the tournament in the past, saying last December: “After what I’ve seen, I’m even more convinced that 2034 will be the best World Cup ever.”
