Meghan Markle’s return to social networks last January was a declaration of intent of what she wanted from 2025. 11 months later, and at the end of the year, the Duchess of Sussex can say that she has fulfilled the expectations of what was expected of her: lifestyle program with Netflix, launch of As Ever, new contract with the platform streamingaward for his commitment to the psychological well-being of minors and for his return to acting in Hollywood. In a period full of professional projects, the Duchess of Sussex gave an interview to the American edition of the magazine Harper’s Bazaar, becoming the cover of the December/January issue. His last cover was three years ago The cut, She had previously been with her husband in the magazine time.
“After years spent absorbed in the stories of others, the Duchess of Sussex is ready to write her next chapter,” begins the article, titled Meghan’s moment. The conversation is divided into two parts: in September, when he collaborated on a day of work at the La Brea Tar Pits, the paleontological site and natural history museum in Los Angeles; and in October, in New York.
But the Duchess of Sussex isn’t the only one in the relationship. The publication also contains testimonials from close friends, who provide more information about what she is like when no one sees her. “She knows how she projects herself and how she wants to connect with the audience. She understands that so much has been written about her that when she does something, she tries to stand out from the crowd so people can see that she’s trying to be authentically herself,” explains Terry Wood, former executive vice president of Harpo Productions. “We could talk for 100 hours and only 10 minutes would pass, and it’s like we never stop smiling,” says Serena Williams.
Prince Henry is not missing from this interview, to whom he dedicates some beautiful words: “He loves me with such intensity and fullness, and he also has a different perspective because he sees information that I don’t see. No one in the world loves me more than him, so I know he will always support me.” She also explains what she likes most about her husband, who she married on May 19, 2018 in St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. “You have someone with an almost childlike curiosity and joy. I was very attracted to that, and he sparked that in me. It shows up in every aspect of our lives. Even in business, I want us to play, have fun, explore, and be creative.”
He says he no longer cares what people say, and that his two personalities coexist perfectly in his public image: “I love doing both: playing with my children and being in the front row at a concert. I think the moment you start basing all your personal decisions on the judgment of others, you lose your authenticity.” And he continues: “You find different ways to protect yourself, both by survival instinct and simply to mature.”
He acknowledges that he has made mistakes, but also that they have helped him in all aspects of his life: “Learn not to do it again. If everything goes as planned, you don’t learn anything. If you don’t learn anything, you don’t grow.” And she uses her two children, Archie and Lilibet, aged six and four respectively, as an example: “I am the mother of two children at that age where they are constantly learning something new. I see them face things that seem completely insurmountable. But I tell them: ‘I know it seems very difficult now, but believe me, soon it will be child’s play’. Perfection does not exist. I also have the right to make mistakes”, she says.
“I like the sense of community at work and connection. I think it’s in my blood. When people start to see your work ethic and really understand your dedication, I think the way you carry yourself in one place reflects on everyone else. This is how I show up when I host school lunches for my kids, this is how I show up when I host a party for my friend who just had a baby, this is how I show up in my business,” Markle says.
She also reveals what her daily life is like working from home: “My office is right next to the kitchen. Lilibet comes and sits on my lap when I’m in the middle of a meeting, whether it’s about my brand’s P&L or some creative topic.” When asked what she hopes her children see when they look at her work, she is clear: “I hope they understand the value of being brave. They saw it when the cookie jar was just a pot simmering on the stove.”
In the year of his return, the Christmas special of his lifestyle show is still waiting to premiere on December 3 Love, Meghan. And the release date remains to be known Close personal friendsthe Amazon MGM Studios film starring actors Brie Larson, Lily Collins, Jack Quaid and Henry Golding, and in which she has a cameo as herself.
